In 2016, we identified a massive and increasing gap between the skills in demand and what a typical education system can provide. In the UNP Thesis, we captured our thoughts on why this gap is growing and why this gap will grow even faster. We welcome you to read the thesis and eager to know your thoughts.
Soon after that, we started developing other professionals, starting with data science and artificial intelligence. At that time, it was clear to us that AI is an emerging technology with immense potential but lacks trained professionals. In 2017 we incorporated UNP as a legal entity.
Since then, we added several other emerging technologies to the list, including IoT, BlockChain. Most of it happened through our network of professionals. We started partnering with academic institutes as the next obvious step to scale up the upskilling program. UNP partner institutes now see an excellent opportunity to diversify their offerings while remaining at the frontier of skill development. We provide consulting, teaching resources and technology to our partner institutes.
While emerging technologies play across different verticals, at UNP, we focus on sustainability as one of the primary application areas. There are two strong reasons behind this selection. First, the earth needs everyone to focus on sustainability now. Second, almost every organization today is trying its best to operate sustainably, thereby creating a large job pool in this space. However, students are open to selecting their application areas and are prepared to jump into any application area that will require the core skill.
